Elders at Home
The need for friends or even just friendly conversation is the same at age 80 as it is at age eight, but, unfortunately, this need is much harder to fulfill when you are elderly, frail and homebound.
Our unique telephone conference call program provides homebound seniors with a social life and a caring, supportive community — all without their having to set foot outside their doors.
More than 260 individuals participated in 900 conference calls last year. The conference calls allow seniors to enjoy friendly chats, reminisce with colleagues about old times, commiserate over health problems or discuss cultural and current events. Participants have struck up lasting friendships and even love relationships over the phone.
Our conference call offerings, led by engaging, committed volunteers, include health and wellness, current event discussions, armchair tours of local museum exhibits, and a very popular Sing-Along call.
Seniors can also engage in peer to peer support through support groups ranging from diabetes to bereavement to men's and women's issues. In addition, they can obtain case assistance from staff for concerns such as healthcare or entitlements.
