  • The Isaacs Center Beacon is located at 1700 3rd Avenue at 96th Street. The Beacon offers myriad services for the whole family. The programs at this center offer positive, healthy atmosphere for youth and their families. Drop in and register at your leisure for one of the many programs the Beacon offers.


  • OPEN GYM NIGHTS:
    You don't have to be athletic to participate in Open Gym. Several nights peer week after 6 p.m., we schedule different groups to come in and enjoy using the facilities. Tuesdays boys ages 11 - 14 get the chance to play. On Wednesdays it's girls night only. Thursdays and Fridays are for boys ages 15 - 19. Saturdays feature basketball tournaments and clinics. Saturdays from December to April the Yorkville Basketball League has games running all day.


  • AFRICAN DANCE offers an opportunity to explore West African culture while getting some aerobic exercise. All ages and skill levels are welcome to move and groove to live drumming at 7 p.m. on Monday nights. Due to limited space only the first 120 participants may enter. Please arrive early to ensure a spot.


  • L.A. FASHION After many successful shows, the IMT (Isaacs Modeling Team) has continued to expand in size and focus. From choregraphing routines to designing clothes, these teens are involved in all aspects of fashion design and the entertainment industry.

  • ART CLASSES: During the school year on Tuesday nights starting at 6:30, we partner with the NY Junior League to provided interactive and fun art projects for youth ages 7 to 14. The focus of this program is to draw from various resources to promote art education.

    LEARNING ENGLISH: Also on Tuesday, volunteers from the Junior League can assist you or someone you know with this basic conversational English course for adults, starting at 6 p.m. Childcare is available for children ages 6 and above if needed.

    TUTORING: On Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 children and teens ages 10 - 18 can receive educational support in all subject areas. Tutoring takes place with an adult volunteer from New York Cares.

    MENTORING: Volunteers and Isaacs youth of all ages meet at least twice per month on Wednesday after 6 p.m. or Saturday afternoon. Through these sessions mentors become adult friends who provide guidance and support to our young people. A mentoring pair engage in activities such as board games, sports, arts activities and occasional homework assistance.

    SAT PREP is a weekly program that prepares high school students ages 16 and above for the college application process. There is a strong emphasis on the SAT exam. Volunteers provide assistance in challenging areas of the exam such as essay writing or math and logic problems. Participants also recieve guidance with selecting schools through access to an Isaacs Educational Advisor.

    FILMMAKERS CLUB gives teens the opportunity to learn how to make their own movies while improving in academic skills. Every member of the Filmmakers has the chance to write, direct, act, and edit their own short film. These films are completely made by and star youth. Past film titles include Another One Bites the Dust, Motown Love, and Grease 2000.

    SUPER SATURDAY TUTORIAL is an academic enrichment program for youth ages 6 to 12 which emphasizes reading and writing from 10 a.m. to noon. Teenage Peer Tutors lead small group activities that range from reading aloud to group presentations in a supervized setting with a certified public school teacher. Spaces are limited.

    COLLEGE CAREER PREP (CCP): This program assists youth ages 14-17 with a wide range of career and college exploration activities combined with self-sufficiency skills. Activities include resume development, essay writing, interview skills, research, and data collection. At the end of the program participants will present a portfolio of their experience while securing the opportunity to earn paid internships and/or gift certificates. Field trips to local colleges and universities are included. Opportunities to apply for financial assistance for post-secondary education through our scholarship program are also available.
