N.O.R.C. | SENIOR CENTER | MEALS ON WHEELS

Senior Center

Our Senior Center is a lively, thriving community with a diverse membership of 2,000 low-income seniors who speak more than 20 languages among them. On weekdays, nearly 150 seniors gather at the Isaacs Center for a hot, nutritious breakfast and lunch, music performances, health and wellness programs, and social and cultural activities. These gatherings, which include holiday and monthly birthday parties, provide a focal point to participants’ days. Just knowing they have a place to go and people to see makes our senior clients happier and, in turn, healthier.

Rather than face the prospect of lonely weekends, our clients know they can come to us on Saturday for lunch and other enriching activities. Isaacs' Senior Center is also helping older adults cross the digital divide. With beginner and intermediate computer classes, we introduce members to email and the Internet. Many of our clients are thrilled to be able to communicate with family and friends through email or find needed information over the Internet. All of these efforts help bring seniors out of isolation and allow them to connect with each other.

The Stanley M. Isaacs Senior Center, partly funded by the New York City Department for the Aging, provides a broad range of programs to low and moderate income residents of Yorkville, East Harlem and throughout New York City.
