  • The City’s elderly population is increasing at a phenomenal rate. At the same time, cutbacks in social programs have left more of our elderly clients struggling to pay the rent or even afford proper nutrition. A full 40% of those we serve are 80 or older. Half live below the poverty line.

    We have found that these older adults — whether they are 60 or 90 — want more than anything to remain in their communities and in their homes and to grow old with dignity. They also seek meaningful connections with others and ways to combat the inevitable isolation that comes with outliving friends and family or enduring multiple medical ailments.

    Isaacs Center senior programs have been crafted with these basic needs in mind. They foster both independence and connection –– whether through hot meals delivered by a caring Meals on Wheels worker, telephone conference calls organized by Elders at Home and hosted by interesting and interested volunteers or computer classes at our Senior Center.

    Through the years, we have created a seamless system of community-based services that support our seniors by supporting their heartfelt desire to live at home independently, with dignity and a sense of purpose.
